What is Watermelon Spirit ?

Watermelon Spirit is a conscious consumption app that helps users identify products and brands connected to systems of oppression and human rights violations in Palestine.

The app provides curated, accessible information to support ethical decision making in everyday purchases. By offering brand insights and responsible alternatives, Watermelon Spirit empowers individuals to align their spending with their values.

More than a boycott app, Watermelon Spirit is a platform for awareness, solidarity, and collective impact. It transforms small daily choices into meaningful acts of support for humanity, justice, and peace.

The Problem

Target SDG 17.16

This point emphasizes the importance of global cooperation. Countries, organizations, and communities need to share knowledge, technology, and support with one another so that development goals can be achieved, especially in developing countries.

The situation in Palestine shows the weak implementation of this point. Palestine still faces limited access to consistent international assistance, obstacles to the transfer of technology and resources due to blockades, and a lack of real implementation of global resolutions because of the political interests of major powers.

An Ongoing Conflict
Palestine is still facing occupation, blockades, and continuous violence. This shows that peace, as expected in SDG 16, has not been achieved yet.
Difficulty in Getting Justice
Many human rights violations, such as land seizures and attacks on civilians, are not handled fairly. International law often does not work properly because of the political interests of powerful countries.
Palestine’s Weak Global Position
Palestine is not fully recognized as a country, which makes it harder to speak up in international diplomacy. Although many UN decisions support Palestine, they are often not carried out because powerful countries use their veto.
Weak Global Cooperation (SDG 17)
Some countries do support Palestine, but real actions like continuous aid and fair diplomacy are still lacking. While a few countries actively help, others remain passive or support the stronger side.

Our Solution

Direct relevance

Palestine is a clear real world example of how the absence of peace and the failure of legal institutions threaten the survival of the Palestinian people.

Global human rights issue

SDG 16 focuses on human rights, and the Palestinian case has long been a global concern due to serious human rights violations.

Link to development

Without peace and justice, other SDG goals such as education, health, and poverty reduction cannot be achieved in Palestine.

Encouraging global solidarity

Discussing Palestine through the lens of SDG 16 naturally calls on other countries to cooperate (SDG 17) to help free Palestine from occupation and violence.
